Description
Role Overview
Ecosave designs, delivers, and supports energy and smart-building solutions that improve comfort, reliability, efficiency, and operating cost. Our Service team works alongside a 24/7 National Operations Center (NOC) to support commercial, healthcare, education, senior living, and industrial customers across a growing national portfolio. This is the fully qualified service level in Ecosave’s BAS career path. You will independently own standard service calls from assessment through verified resolution or a clearly documented next step. The role combines controls and HVAC diagnosis, safe system changes, direct customer communication, and close coordination with the NOC and broader Service team.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Service Delivery
- Own planned, contract, time-and-material, and emergency service requests remotely and onsite; establish a safe plan and drive each call to resolution or a clearly owned next step.
- Troubleshoot BAS controllers, field networks, workstations, servers, field devices, VFD interfaces, and the interaction between controls and connected HVAC equipment.
- Use trends, alarms, graphics, sequences, live point data, controller status, and field measurements to identify root cause, correct the issue, and verify stable operation.
- Modify authorized programs, graphics, schedules, setpoints, alarms, trends, and point configurations; preserve backups, test changes, and confirm results before closeout.
- Perform preventive maintenance, controls health reviews, calibration, backups, minor repairs, and limited commissioning or retrofit work.
- Troubleshoot BACnet, Modbus, ARCNET, IP connectivity, and third-party integrations while respecting customer IT and cybersecurity boundaries.
Customer Ownership, Documentation & Administration
- Communicate with the customer upon arrival, when material conditions or scope change, and before departure; translate technical findings into clear operational language.
- Complete service records, time entries, and expense reports accurately and on time, documenting the issue, work performed, result, and any remaining action.
- Identify repairs, upgrades, and reliability improvements outside the current scope and capture enough technical detail for Service leadership to estimate or quote the work.
- Coordinate with the NOC, Service coordination, engineering, contractors, IT, vendors, and customer representatives; share practical knowledge with developing technicians.
Safety, Security & Stewardship
- Protect credentials, data, backups, tools, test equipment, parts, and the assigned vehicle; escalate suspected cyber risk and never bypass access controls.
- Stop work when conditions are unsafe, report hazards promptly, and participate in the rotating on-call schedule.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three or more years of hands-on experience servicing, commissioning, programming, or troubleshooting commercial HVAC controls or building automation systems, or an equivalent combination of controls experience and relevant manufacturer or technical training.
- Working knowledge of HVAC equipment, DDC control theory, electrical fundamentals, control wiring, and common field devices.
- Ability to read control drawings, mechanical plans, electrical schematics, sequences of operation, and technical product documentation.
- Ability to connect to controllers and BAS front ends, interpret live system data, make controlled changes, and verify the result.
- Practical understanding of Ethernet and IP networking, including addressing, subnets, connectivity testing, and the boundary between BAS and customer IT responsibilities.
- Strong diagnostic judgment, organization, customer communication, and written service documentation.
- Ability to work independently in the field while escalating safety, scope, cybersecurity, and technical risk early.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company vehicle-insurability requirements.
- Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule and work occasional evenings, weekends, overtime, or overnight travel when customer conditions require it.
- Ability to satisfy customer-site screening, badging, safety, and access requirements.
Preferred
- Automated Logic WebCTRL experience, including commissioning tools, controller programming, graphics, alarming, trending, and field-bus troubleshooting.
- Experience with Niagara N4 or other commercial BAS platforms such as Carrier, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Trane, or Delta Controls.
- Experience integrating and troubleshooting BACnet, Modbus, ARCNET, or third-party equipment.
- Technical certificate or associate degree in HVAC, controls, electronics, electrical systems, networking, or a related discipline.
- Relevant manufacturer training, Niagara certification, OSHA training, NFPA 70E awareness, or other recognized controls and safety credentials.
- Experience supporting occupied or mission-sensitive healthcare, education, senior living, commercial, or industrial facilities.
- Experience with small retrofit work, customer training, system-to-service turnover, or mentoring developing technicians
