Senior Engineer, Energy Efficiency Performance for Incentives and Grants

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Engineer to join our team to play a pivotal role in advancing energy efficiency innovation and incentives. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in driving energy efficiency initiatives by developing and implementing innovative strategies for incentives, innovation and grants programs. This role requires skills in energy-saving calculations, custom incentive development, and innovative engineering solutions. The preferred candidate will have worked as a Sr. Engineer Energy Performance for Incentives at a leading ESCO for guaranteed saving projects. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to assess project performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

In this role, 70% of your time will be spent working with Energy Incentive Performance Assurance Engineering, Incentive Analysis and Program Management
Energy Efficiency Engineering Calculations: Proficient in energy and water efficiency savings calculations for supporting incentive applications.
Performance Engineering: Conduct in-depth performance analysis of energy efficiency project to maximize & secure custom incentives, including data collection, analysis, and reporting for baseline strategy and implementation.
Incentive Program Development: Develop and refine incentive programs to stimulate energy & water efficiency investments, focusing on cost-effectiveness, energy & water savings and environmental impact for guaranteed performance contracts
Incentive and Grant Program Management: Oversee incentive programs and competitive RFPs for grants, from application review to project implementation and reporting.
Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise on energy efficiency technologies and best practices, including building energy systems, HVAC, lighting, and renewable energy.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with utilities, government agencies, and other industry stakeholders to foster partnerships and promote energy efficiency initiatives.
• M & V for incentives, Develop strategies for metering, monitoring and trends requirements to secure incentives and grants as per IPMVP protocols and program requirements for securing incentives and grants
Preferred Trade Ally / Approved Contractor Maintain Status with various utility and state agency incentive programs and strategically investigate and recommend additional programs to participate

15% of the job function will be spent on field work to support energy engineering:
Energy Performance Engineering: Conduct site visits for energy assessments for ASHRAE level I, II and III energy assessments when necessary to support the engineering team and set up an M & V plan for incentives

Remaining 15% of time for the ideal candidate in this role will spend time working on:
• Innovation and Research: Stay updated on emerging energy efficiency technologies and industry trends and identify opportunities for innovative solutions.
Incentive Process Improvement through the development of new tools, technologies, methodologies, and strategies for energy performance assessments

 

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Energy Engineering or related field) required; advanced degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in energy efficiency preferably ESCO industry, with a strong focus on program design, energy performance engineering incentive calculation and implementation
• Professional certifications such as PE, CEM, CEA or CMVP are highly desirable.
• Development & Implementation experience of custom incentives for energy and water efficiency projects
• Proven track record in developing and managing incentive and grant programs.
• Passionate about energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability.
• In-depth knowledge of energy efficiency technologies, standards, and codes.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Energy Modeling software and measurement tools).
• Demonstrated aptitude for sourcing and implementing methodology for maximizing energy efficiency, and water management incentives in custom programs and grants.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
• Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple incentive projects simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Some overnight travel could be required to develop strategies and implement incentive programs
